Ameren Illinois Warm Neighbors Cool Friends donation program

One of the main programs in Illinois is Warm Neighbors Cool Friends. It relies on donations from people and businesses across the state in order to operate. Ameren Illinois also will provide matching grants and additional annual funding to the program. While the resources will vary, many struggling customers do receive assistance from it every year. The aid is for those facing an emergency and it is not a hand out, charity program.

Any funds you donate to it will be tax deductible and all the money goes directly to the less fortunate. The funds people contribute will not be used to pay administrative or other related costs. Customers can add a monthly contribution to your Ameren Illinois or make a one-time donation to Warm Neighbors Cool Friends. In either case, the company welcomes your gift. Every dollar and penny goes directly to qualified applicants. Your donation will make a big difference in the lives of those less fortunate in the area.

As indicated, Ameren Illinois also contributes additional funds. As an example, in some years, due to abnormally high temperatures during the summer, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been donated and paid out to those in need. Countless families and households receive assistance as a result of these donations and matching grants. The donated money will go to ensure customers have some options available to them to pay their cooling costs during this hot summer or winter heating bills. The company is always very mindful of the needs of its customers.

Many local agencies distribute the money from Warm Neighbors Cool Friends to customers. In order to qualify for the program and any assistance, a household will need to meet federal government low-income guidelines. While the cut offs can change from year to year, for a four-person household, the maximum income can be around $50,000 per year.

While funding levels do change, those Illinois customer who qualify will receive a grant of up to a few hundred dollars per year. Money will help with summer utility bills or heating costs. In addition, the program can help pay any subsidy that is combined with the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

These programs are focused on low- to moderate-income customers. Ameren Illinois will also assist senior citizens that live on a fixed income, individuals coping with disability, the unemployed and sick. Most of the people who benefit do not qualify for other forms of government assistance.
