Virginia Natural Gas offers a few of its own financial assistance and grant programs. However, they also work closely with a large number of non-profits, charities, and government organizations in their service territory. Find information on all your options and programs below for paying gas and utility bills.
Crisis assistance
When a customer of Virginia Natural Gas has run out of all other options and assistance programs, including LIHEAP and Fuel Assistance, then crisis assistance is available in an emergency. It can assistance customers when they are faced with a lack of heat, utility or gas service cutoff is imminent, and if/when they have unsafe or broken heating or energy equipment.
If you apply for this program, and are found to be eligible, then Crisis Assistance support provided may include, but is not limited too, purchase of primary home heating fuel by providing cash or grants, payment of utility security deposit, money can be paid out for the purchase of portable space heater, payment for emergency shelter; repair or replacement of heating equipment, payment of primary heat, energy or utility bill; provision of supplemental heating equipment/maintenance, and referrals as well.
You will need to meet program criteria, and will have to apply at your local department of social services in Virginia. You may be interviewed as well to determine eligibility.
Virginia Natural Gas fully supports the federal government funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This government program can help low income and elderly customers in need with paying their heating expenses and gas bills. Eligibility for LIHEAP is based on household size and income.

EnergyShare program - This resource is run by the Salvation Army in Virginia. It can offer assistance with energy bills. You will need to call your local Salvation Army and apply to that office for assistance.
