Utility Bill Assistance

Burbank Water and Power Project Share utility donation program.

Short term financial aid from Project Share is for a limited number of families that meet qualifications. The Burbank Water and Power company collects donations from the community, as well as special donors known as Project Share Angel, and provides the money to individuals faced with an emergency that is not caused by them.

The program is limited in scope, it is not a government subsidy, and various qualifications are in place. The intent is to help pay a bill for a crisis and is not for those Burbank customers that are not otherwise self-sufficient. More information on the terms of Project Share and how to donate are below.

As noted, any assistance is temporary. It is for people who would otherwise not be able to pay their utility bill and that would have their electricity shut off. As noted, Burbank Water and Power also relies on donations to keep this program running, and people from the city as well as local companies often contribute. So it is a small and targeted program.

All money contributed stays in the local Burbank California area. It will only assist residents in need due to that emergency situation. If you donate, it will also be tax-deductible, and that can be a significant savings when considering the high tax rates in California.

It is also simple to contribute to Project Share, and any dollar amount is always appreciated and will be used wisely. People can write a onetime check, make a recurring contribution, or even become an Angel. A customer service representative from Burbank Water and Power can also walk people through this process, and they operate from an address at PO Box 631, Burbank, CA 91503-0631.

The Angel status is for customers that donate to Project Share on a monthly, recurring basis. This is done through the Roundup program. It provides a small dollar amount to the fund every month, and it is combined with other contributions to help keep someone’s power on.

As an example of how round up works, if you bill was $43.76, the customer is billed $44. The difference of 24 cents is donated to Burbank Water and Power as part of Project Share, and the money is used to assist the needy. Annual statements are provided to the person that donates so they can be sure to get the tax deduction.

On the other hand, to get assistance, apply to Burbank Power. The money can be used for the least fortunate that are facing a onetime crisis. All funds are limited as it does rely on donations, so apply early in order to get assistance. Many applications do need to be turned down.
