Central Electric Member Cares is available for income eligible customers that need help paying their energy bills or other utility related expenses. It is one of the many resources that can help a household keep their power on when they are struggling.
Member Cares relies on voluntary donations to keep it operating. The money comes from customers (both residential and business) as well as employees. There are also matching funds that may be provided to it using shareholder money or funds from the trustees of Central Electric. All of these donations are combined together in an effort to help struggling customers.
The generosity of the community is always appreciated. All of the funds will be used to help the most deserving. It is an effective way to give back to the larger North Carolina community. There are different ways to contribute, including the following.
-Round up a monthly utility bill to the next highest dollar amount and the difference is donated. This can be started or stopped at anytime.
-Customers can also contribute to Central Electric Member Cares by using a recurring monthly donation. Mark the amount on the payment stub or write in a value, and this donation can be stopped at any time.
Many customers need support from time to time. Maybe they are behind on one or more of their utility bills due to missing work for a few days due to an illness. Or maybe a cash assistance check from the government was late, or maybe their spouse passed away. These are some of the short term scenarios in which the donations from Central Electric Member Cares were intended to address.

Applications to Member Cares can be obtained from the number below. Or contact a social service agency. In addition, the funds from this program are usually combined along with other forms of support. As the company program is often combined with the following. There may be grants from LIHEAP for paying utility bills, donations from social service agencies, and of course some funds from Member Cares for qualified Central Electric Corporation customers.
When applying for help, the customer should ask what (if anything else) they also qualify for. There is usually not one answer for a household. They often need to combine multiple utility bill assistance programs in order to get the assistance they need. The solution known as Central Electric Member Cares is just one piece of the puzzle.
Since it relies on donations, the energy bill program is also intended for a short term crisis. This is why it is critical for the customer of Central Electric to get assistance from other sources as well. As they will often need longer term support for paying their bills, and this is when a resource such as LIHEAP may be beneficial. Or maybe there is another local social service agency that can offer assistance.
