One of the many energy bill assistance programs available to customers of City of Fulton is the EAP service. It was created as an emergency program of last resort, meaning for low income families who used up all their LIHEAP grants and other sources of financial help, that the Energy Assistance Program (EAP) may then be able to assist.
Over the years, using donations from the community as well as company funds, the program has allowed thousands of customers to get a little financial relief. Some households in the City of Fulton service territory received enough assistance on their utility bills to stay warm during the winter. While other families have been able to keep their lights on during time of a financial hardship or maybe pas for a natural gas bill. The point being that the City of Fulton Missouri EAP donation program has been effective.
Donations and applications for energy help
Energy Assistance Program (EAP) impacts the community in two different ways. The first is it allows people, charities, and employees of City of Fulton Missouri to give back. They can volunteer to bring awareness to the vulnerable in the community. Or they can donate some money to the program, and the cash will go towards help the low income pay their utility bills. Contributions can be made in three different ways, as follows.
-One time contributions, which can be made at any time.
-Round up each and every monthly utility bill to the next highest dollar amount, and the extra “rounded up” portion goes to the program.
-Volunteers at a local charity in City of Fulton service area to help raise money, process applications for electric bill assistance, and give back.

All donations are tax deductible. In addition, one hundred percent of the money raised goes to the City of Fulton EAP program, with none of it going to towards salaries and/or administrative costs. Since the donation to the EAP utility bill assistance program is deductible, the net financial impact to a donor is reduced.
The second way is helps the region is of course financially. The money donated/raised from the process above is given to low income families, the elderly, disabled, and others who are struggling. City of Fulton EAP provides grants and financial aid for paying utility bills.
Generally it is required for the applicant to be both (1) low income and (2) in a crisis. Many of the income requirements are the same as those for LIHEAP. This will be generally around some poverty guidelines set by the state or federal government.
In addition, since the funding is very limited, City of Fulton EAP will only provide a small amount of energy bill assistance. There will often be priorities around a true crisis, and that includes maybe a family with a child or senior citizen whose health would be at risk without lights or heat. Other applicants may also qualify.
When applying for the EAP donation program, be prepared with proof of income, assets, residency, and more. If not qualified, then referrals will be given to other resources too. As the donations are often combined with charitable or other financial aid. For more details, call community action of central Missouri at (573) 642-3316 for information.
