Utility Bill Assistance

City of Independence Ishare utility assistance

In an effort to assist families that are in a crisis or living on a low income, the The City of Independence IShare donation program was created. It provides funding to customers that are out of options, such as those people that have used up their LIHEAP benefits or try charities first. The IShare program runs off donations, and all the contributions are used for paying utility bills.

First and foremost, the company will always recommend that the family cut back on their usage of electricity to save money. At the same time they do this, they should apply to LIHEAP in Missouri. All of these things (and everything else humanely possible) should be done for applying to Ishare. In fact, the team at The City of Independence will want proof that these things were done as the program is the very last resort for needy, low income customers.

How to apply to The City of Independence IShare

The family can either contact a non-profit such as the Salvation Army, or they can dial The City of Independence directly at (816) 254-4100. They will need proof of income, residency, social security cards, and proof of need. All of this, and more, may be needed in order to get assistance for paying energy bills.

Also, as noted above, the family needs to have done everything else in their power to both pay the utility bill on their own and seek other aid. This program has small amounts of money available due to the donations, so the support given is minimal. If a utility bill is paid, it will only be a partial payment made.

They will also focus The City of Independence IShare on the most deserving or vulnerable. This may be someone that has never missed a payment on their utilities in the past, or maybe someone that is sick or elderly and is facing a medical crisis. So the assistance for paying heating or energy bills is very targeted to some applicants.
