Utility Bill Assistance

City of Oklahoma City Help 2 Others utility bill assistance programs

Residents of Oklahoma City have several different utility bill assistance programs to turn to for help. One of the main ones is HELP 2 OTHERS, which is a program run in partnership with the Salvation Army. It uses donations from the greater OKC community, and the funds pay electric, utility, water, and other energy bills. It is often combined with other resources, including payment plans and government aid.

The Help 2 other program also combines other forms of utility bill help as there is often not just one solution. They include payment plans, guidance for customers with cut-off notices, applications to LIHEAP or weatherization, help from charities in Oklahoma City and more. All of them can help pay utility bills. The city also has free window fans during the summer to help keep homes cool, especially to senior citizens as well as the sick and elderly.

Help 2 Others

This is the main donation program that is offered in the city. It is only for people that live within city limits and that meet low income as well as other limits. While most of the assistance is for water bills, there can be funds for paying electric as well as light and other utility bills.

Help to Others is a partnership between the city as well as City of Oklahoma City. Donations are raised from individuals, local companies, national corporations including Wal-Mart, churches, charities, and others. All of them raise money to help less fortunate pay their utility bills.

Individuals can donate as well. One time as well as recurring contributions can be made. They are income tax deductible, meaning that the donor gets a credit on their state of Oklahoma as well as federal taxes.

The monthly donation for Help 2 Others is a round up system. This means that the donors monthly utility bill is rounded up to the next dollar amount, and that “round up” difference is donated to Help 2 Others. Then people can add any additional amount they want to the bills as an additional contribution.

Apply to Help 2 Others from Salvation Army in OKC

The city helps run it but raising awareness, collecting donations, and offering solutions. But to apply, the Salvation Army is the main intake point. Call (405) 270-7800 for information on Help 2 Others. Or get other guidance from the organization.

As noted, there are also other resources available from the City Of Oklahoma. As they want to do everything they can to help struggling city residents. While there are never any guarantees to getting assistance, if the customer has a cut off notice they can call the customer service department at (405) 297-2833.

Based on need, income, payment history, employment, and other factors, the account will be reviewed. The city may offer a payment plan on water or other utility bills. Or they will refer the client to government grant programs, namely LIHEAP, for help with their heating electric bills. Or there are many other non-profits in the city that may have funding to pay utility bills – all assistance programs as well as options will be explored with the customer as well as the city.
