In an effort to help low income families with utility and heating bills, the Clay Electric Project Share program was created by the company. There are donations provided from the community to pay for it, and matching grants from Clay Electric. In addition to all of that, there are contributions from employees are also used to help fund the program.
All of the donations are tax-deductible, and a year end statement is provided to the donor each year. In addition, any dollar amount will accepted (and used wisely). All of the contributions from the community go strictly to helping the less fortunate pay their energy bills; there is not money kept for any salaries, administrative, or operating costs. This means donors can be 100% satisfied they are making a difference in their local community.
When someone contributes to Clay Electric, they are improving the ability for a struggling person to keep their utilities on. Much of the assistance goes to the elderly, disabled, and vulnerable. The funds go to pay everything from items needed for energy efficiency to light bills, heat, gas, and more. So donors assist with solving the problem of excessive energy use as well as helping people put off disconnections of their service. In addition, a donation will have even greater impact from Clay Electric matching contributions.
Applying for Clay Electric Project Share
When it comes to offering the financial assistance to customers, the Salvation Army as well as other social service agencies play a major role. They go ahead and screen applications to Project Share. They will ensure that all requests are valid, well documented, and that any utility bill assistance goes to the most qualified families.

Not only that, but these other social service agencies will also explore any other options available to the low income household. As there is only so much that Clay Electric Project Share can do on its own. So the partner charities also assess public aid including LIHEAP, job programs, and offer general counseling. In addition there are many energy conservation measures assessed.
Assistance is for customers in a one time hardship. They can’t have had their power or electric turned off repeatedly in the past. It is also for unusual circumstances that were not caused by the applicant themselves. So the applicant can’t have abused their use of their electricity, quit their job then seek utility help, etc.
Much of the assistance for utility bills goes towards the sick, seniors, and those with an unexpected medical condition. Other funds may go for unexpected job loss or other one off reasons. But proof of hardship, income, residency, and other details are required with the application. Only a small number of applications are fulfilled yearly.
For more details on Clay Electric Project Share, either contact the Salvation Army. Or call the company themselves at (352) 473-4917. As this program will be explored as well as payment plans and more.
