One of the leading assistance programs available to struggling CPS Energy customers is REAP. This is paid for by donations from the public as well as matching grants from the energy company and others. Contributions allow you to assist neighbors who may need help and additional donations are always needed.
The REAP, Inc. donation program was created from a partnership between CPS Energy, Bexar County and the City of San Antonio. If funding allows, and someone meets qualifications, they may receive assistance with paying their bills up to twice per year. Priority is for those people with a crisis or who are otherwise in distress.
Please do consider and make a donation if possible. Every dollar that you give goes directly to those who are in need and not administrative costs. Participants who benefit from REAP will receive credit on their utility bills, rather than a check. This will ensure any hard earned funds that you or anyone else donates are used for the intended purpose.
It is a simple process to contribute or to even apply for help. In order to donate to REAP, you can just add a few bucks to your payment and indicate the amount that you wish to contribute on your bill stub. This can be done from paper or electronic bills. Those who would like to help less-fortunate families and seniors can contribute to REAP by simply adding an amount to their monthly CPS Energy bill payments. You can also donate via Paypal or calling customer service.
The Residential Energy Assistance Partnership (REAP) may also from time to time get additional contributions from CPS Energy in an effort to help the disadvantaged elderly, disabled and low-income customers with children with paying their electric and natural gas bills. The extra donations can help to lighten the burden felt by those individuals in the community who are working hard and struggling to make ends meet.

The Bexar County Department of Community Investment as well as City of San Antonio's Department of Community Initiatives are responsible for the distribution of REAP funds to qualifying low income individuals and families. In order to be found to be eligible for utility assistance, low-income families must have children 3 years of age or younger. Additional qualifying criteria include individuals who are lower income seniors, elderly, handicapped or require life saving or critical-care equipment. The REAP Board has approved, based on the availability of donations, up to two disbursements annually to those who are found to be qualified, one during the heating season and the other during the cooling season.
