Using donations from the community, and operating in partnership with local non-profits and other agencies, Delmarva Power operates the Good Neighbor Energy Fund. This can help families with their utility bills. It is a very limited resource, and it is only for customer if they are struggling and meet low income guidelines.
The company will continue to work with its partners on collecting money for this service, and Delmarva Power will often ask customers to support families in need of by making a tax deductible donation on occasion. Often times matching grants are made by shareholders or employees of the company as well, and all the money raised will go to fund the program and not pay for administrative costs.
In fact, there will often be an annual fundraiser held, and each household in their service territory will be sent pre-addressed envelopes. This makes the donation process simple and more efficient for those who contribute, and when combined with the matching funds, many people can get help. Every dollar is appreciated, so whether someone gives $1 or $10, the funds will be put to good use and they will assist many people in the state.
While the number of customers assisted from the Good Neighbor Energy Fund will change each year, in general it will assist thousands of households per year. Most of these are facing a one time crisis or financial emergency. Each year, in aggregate, hundreds of thousands of dollars will be paid out to beneficiaries, and the money goes a long ways towards stopping disconnections in the service territory.
The Good Neighbor Energy Fund is administered by partners in Maryland such as the Salvation Army, and together they and others all work to help households in need of energy bill assistance. They want to keep people warm during the winter months, and keep their heat on.

This is especially true during the cold winter months in Delaware and Maryland. The cold spells that can occur at that time of year make it a challenge to keep up with ever increasing costs of heating bills, and when combined with the currently struggling economy, those two factors can cause many people to fall behind on their energy bills. The Good Neighbor Energy Fund and the money it pays out to the needy will continue to help address these challenges faced by many.
To donate or apply for help, contact a local Salvation Army center in your community. Or feel free to call Delmarva Power. All of the funds will go to only income qualified households that are facing a one time crisis, and this is not the type of program that operates as an entitlement.
