Utility Bill Assistance

Dominion Energy EnergyShare Utility bill assistance in Utah.

In an effort to help low income families, seniors, and the disabled, various groups and social service agencies (including Catholic Charities in Utah) created the Dominion Energy EnergyShare utility bill assistance program. It uses donations from the community to help pay the energy or heating bills of struggling families. The program is a “last resort” for those in need.

The money to fund the EnergyShare program comes from many places. But 100% is donated and 100% is paid out to less fortunate families. The funds come from one or more of the following places:

  • Charitable fund raisers such as bake sales or food drives.
  • Utility company employees as well as management at Dominion Energy, and the company trustees also donate too.
  • Regular customers who make one time or recurring donations to the Dominion Energy EnergyShare utility assistance program.
  • Some charities or social service agencies may also give some money to the program, or they offer other forms of low income energy bill help.

All funds are appreciated, no matter the amount. The money is used wisely, and whether $1 is given or $100, it does make a difference.

Apply or donate to Utah Dominion Energy EnergyShare

As noted, there are two components of the assistance program to explore. One is open to anyone (donations) and the other is open only to low income and/or struggling customers. But keep in mind these are not the only resources available, as some households may also benefit from payment plans, government aid, or similar types of support.

The second part of the program is of course the financial assistance that is paid out to income qualified, low income families in Utah. There is money for senior citizens, the disabled, working poor, and others who are struggling. It is an exception program for those with an unusual financial challenge. All of the money donated…every single cent…is paid out as a form of energy bill assistance. There are no funds kept for administrative costs.

When apply for assistance, bring the following. Copies of a current and past due utility bills and/or statement; proof of income from all sources, whether a job or public aid (SSI, food stamps, disability, etc.); residency; proof of being a US citizen or immigrant; identification including a license or social security card for all members of the home; and more. There may also be other requirements as part of Dominion Energy EnergyShare, but each application is reviewed on a one off basis.

When approved, the funds will be issued within a matter of days. So while it is fairly quick process; it is not a so called emergency program as it does take time to review an application as well as disburse the money. Therefore the applicant should be doing everything else they can (in addition to waiting on Dominion Energy EnergyShare) in order to catch up on their utility bills. They can seek help from local charities, non-profits, other social service agencies, friends, families, and more.

Dominion Energy EnergyShare is never enough in itself to pay a bill. What the customer should do is also inquire into customer service for a payment plan. We also mentioned other steps to take above while waiting on utility bill assistance.
