Families in Ohio that use Dominion as their energy provider can donate to the EnergyShare program or apply to it for assistance. The program is run in partnership with the Salvation Army and other groups, and it can help income qualified customers with paying their utility or heating bills, with a focus on natural gas costs. There are many conditions that need to be met and funding is limited, but Dominion may be able to assist customers with paying their bills from it.
As noted, EnergyShare relies on contributions from the public. Many people as well as businesses donate to it, and when they do, they will generally receive a deduction on their state of Ohio and federal income taxes. There are even organizations in Ohio that hold fundraisers to contribute as well, and in many cases Dominion will match any donation made.
Any dollar amount can be contributed, whether it is a $1 or $5. There are different ways to contribute, and people can add whatever amount they want to their monthly utility bill or make a onetime payment. It can be $1, $2, $5, or $10, the amount doesn’t matter.
Just indicate the amount you want to contribute on your monthly bills Also, overpayments made on an account are automatically recognized as a contribution and will be documented on your next bill, so be aware of that. There will be an annual statement provided to anyone who contributes as well, so they have it for tax filing purposes and their records.
Any donations made, and the payments from the program, go directly to the qualified low income family and every cent donated goes to benefit those in need. Dominion and the social service agencies, such as the Salvation Army, pay for the program's administrative expenses, so what is contributed will go to the needy and low income in Ohio.

The application process to request help is extensive. After all, EnergyShare is Dominion of Ohio’s energy bill assistance program of last resort. There is a focus on seniors and the disabled, and the help is for anyone who faces financial hardships. Also, EnergyShare is only for people with a onetime crisis, and it is not a long term benefit.
Additional funds come from tax-deductible donations from stockholders, customers, employees, EnergyShare Partners and Dominion. The money will be distributed through a network of nonprofit health and human service agencies, with most of it run by Salvation Army as noted.
In Ohio, EnergyShare is focus on assisting with heating bills, but there may be some help for cooling assistance as well, however that is even rarer. Any donations are always contributed, and the heating assistance from EnergyShare applies to any source. So Dominion customers can use it for oil, gas, wood, kerosene and electricity, and it doesn’t matter. However the first priority will always be on assisting with natural gas bills. Call the company to apply.
