Utility Bill Assistance

Duke Energy Share the Warmth Utility Assistance in South Carolina.

One of the main utility and heating bill assistance programs offered by Duke Energy is Share the Warmth. It is paid for as a result of donations and contributions from customers, employees, and even the Duke Energy Foundation. The program provides people a great way to give back to the community and to help the less fortunate in South Carolina.

The main focus of Share the Warmth is to offer assistance with heating bills to the poor, less fortunate, and others facing a crisis. Much of the funding will even go to families with children, the disabled, and seniors in South Carolina. Thousands of people have been able to continue to heat their homes during the winter or cool them during the summer as a result of generous donations from the program.

If you can contribute, please do so. As indicated it relies on contributions from the well off in the community. Your donations may more than likely be tax deductible as well. In addition, the Duke Energy Foundation will provide matching grants as they do not want to see customers lose their power either. Dozens of non-profits agencies and charities in South Carolina also work with Duke Energy on this resource.

Duke Power is one of the major contributors. For example through funding of AdvanceSC, the foundation, and contributions from customers, almost $1 million is being provided to low income customers in South Carolina every year, with a focus on paying heating bills. Even though most electric rates are only increasing a percent or two per year, Duke works aggressively to help meet the anticipated need of those facing disconnection.

Extremely important support for the Share the Warmth program also is provided by Duke Power customers. Usually in November families across South Carolina will receive a bill insert in the mail with information on how to contribute using a tax deductible donation. As indicated, if you contribute, the Duke Energy Foundation will then process to match your individual donation up to $50 per customer. You can even select what county you want your donation to go to, so that ensures the money stays local.
