Utility Bill Assistance

Glendale Water and Power Helping Hands Assistance programs.

Donations from Glendale Water and Power customers (both residential and business), employees, management and retirees generously fund the utility bill assistance program known as Helping Hands. All of the money (100% of it) goes to helping less fortunate customers keep their lights, heat, water, and electricity on. There may also be funds for a deposit.

The main goal of GWP Helping Hands vis to provide emergency financial assistance to low-income customers, and at most $150 is paid out. There is help for people living in poverty and/or anyone with a short term, emergency crisis. Many of the customers and applicants to the service are disabled and elderly, or they are single moms or dads. There is also often energy bill assistance to people that have had a partner (such as spouse or primary wage earner) die unexpectedly. Or someone with a medical or health care crisis may be able to get help too.

Applying or donating to Glendale Water and Power GWP Helping Hands

The program is run in partnership with other agencies. Applications to GWP can be made through local community action agencies, social service groups, charities and others. These groups work with the company to administer the program. In addition, the customer support team at GWP (see number below) can also provide advice on the application process.

When funds are issued, the amount of money is limited to $150, and it can pay electric or water costs. The entire utility bill will not be paid; only a portion of it is. In addition, there is not cash given out rather the assistance from Helping Hands is applied directly to the account in question. This will ensure that there is no or limited abuse with the program.

Note this is a short term, partial solution. If a Glendale Water and Power customer needs long term assistance for paying their bills, then they should try other resources including LIHEAP, weatherization, CalWorks, and more. Most of those are federal government funded. Those energy bill assistance programs also tend to be for families living in or near poverty, but they do take into account family size and number of children when deciding on those income levels.

Glendale Water and Power GWP Helping Hands is only available due the result of donations from the public too. As noted, most of the funds come from the public, employees (or former employees), with some contributions coming from other sources. Also as noted 100% of every single cent and dollar collected goes to helping low income qualified families.

Anyone who is interest in giving back can donate to the program. Call the company to get details, as they will allow customers to set up a Round Up type service. Or mail a check in to the program and those funds are accumulated then paid out as part of GWP Helping Hands. !00% of the money goes to qualified customers for their utility bills.

Proof will always be needed when applying for utility bill help from Glendale Water and Power Helping Hands. When applying for financial aid, some or all of the following information may be required by the company or its partners. Applicants should bring all current household bills, such as rent payment and energy costs, from last two months; copy of lease or mortgage agreement; Valid drivers license/photo ID; Proof of all household income (job, pension, disability, etc.) from last two months; and also the staff will need documentation of cause of crisis, such as illness, job layoff, unexpected car repair, or a medical bill.
