There are different ways to apply or request assistance for energy bills. It should always be known that the program is very limited in capacity and not all people can be helped. Any contributions will be used wisely by the company and is only for individuals or families that satisfy all of the application criteria.
Donations are used from the public to pay for Dollar Aide. The money comes from many sources. If someone applies and is accepted into the program, any type of help is normally combined with other support. There may be information given to the household on how to save money on their electricity bills by conservation or increased efficiency. Or they may be referred to long term programs, such as federal benefits, that can help pay a portion of the utility bill as well. An example of that may be LIHEAP. Or the company will give clients LED light bulbs for their home to help them save money. There are many benefits to using LED bulbs.
Of particular focus of Dollar Aide is on helping Kansas City Power & Light customers that would be at risk if their electricity or heat was turned off. This may range from senior citizens to the disabled or families with young children. Others, such as Kansas City Power & Light customers facing a medical emergency, may also be candidates for one time energy bill assistance as well.
