Utility Bill Assistance

Donate to Kansas City Power Light (KC&L) Dollar Aide program.

The Dollar-Aide program from Kansas City Power and Light (KCP&L) relies on donations from individuals and businesses in the community. It allows people to make a difference in the lives of others as all money goes to help the less fortunate and low income, including many seniors and children from working poor families. The money you donate to the utility bill assistance program will improve their lives and help them keep their power on.

Over the year, the KCP&L Dollar-Aide service has helped thousands of families and individuals pay their heating, utility and water bills. Hundreds of seniors have been able to stay warm during the cold winters, or maybe even cool during a heat wave. It assists people during financially challenging times to avoid loss of their utility service. Donations and contributions (which are tax deductible) fund this important assistance program.

Kansas City Power and Light also does its part. Oftentimes they will match every dollar donated to Dollar-Aide with an additional one dollar energy credit. So your contribution will be even more effective. Both of these combined may be able to help those who are struggling.

Some of the ways to contribute include the following. Customers can make a one-time donation. This can even be done at the time you pay your monthly utility bill. Many people decide to make a year-round monthly pledge. This as well is tax-deductible and can be made as a recurring monthly payment on your bill. Call the company for details to learn more about these or other ways to contribute. People can even donate using their cell phones by sending a text message! (888) 471-5275

As indicated Dollar-Aide is for low income customers and can help with utility and energy bills. There are a number of conditions in place that need to be met, including income limits.

For additional information on non-profit agencies and other organizations that distribute Dollar-Aide funds to the needy, customers can call the United Way of Greater Kansas City (call 1-866-320-5764) or you can also dial the United Way of St. Joseph. Both of these organization administer the program for the region. Or call other non-profits like the Salvation Army. As indicated, all donations made are tax deductible.

When you call these United Way agencies they may be able to provide information on other resources, and maybe even help them apply. Non-profits can help eligible low to moderate income customers secure funds and cash grants from other agencies to help pay their Kansas City Power and Light energy bills.
