Utility Bill Assistance

MidAmerican Energy Company I CARE utility donation program in Iowa.

One of the most effective ways to donate and to help the less fortunate, or to get assistance for paying utility or heating bills, is the I CARE program from MidAmerican. This program was created in an effort to help the less fortunate or people facing a crisis with their bills. However, it does rely on both the generosity of customers and local businesses as well as contributions from the company and its employees.

It is a fairly comprehensive and inclusive program. For example, not only do donations come from the larger community, but local non-profits both accept and process applications. There will also be fund raisers help in the company and by local organizations. All these different groups work together as part of I CARE, and they are focused on those that are struggling.

For those that donate, they should know that customer contributions are not used for administrative expenses, and anything that people continue will go directly to paying utility bills. There are also tax deductions involved, and the donations go directly to helping those that are less fortunate.

While the program is voluntary and no one needs to participate, that being said, MidAmerican Energy Company does strongly encourage customers to help a neighbor in need. The funds stay local, and your generous donation can help someone keep their power on during the winter months.

As part of this program and the money raised, MidAmerican Energy Company will provide financial assistance for paying for cold weather, winter time heating bills. But not only that, it helps pay for energy conservation measures. So it can cover a couple different need of the community.

I CARE assists the unemployed, disabled, and those with a medical crisis. These customers and others that may be facing a crisis can get assistance. The donations that are raised per above are used for the payment of their heating bills or making their homes more energy efficient.

When someone does decide to donate, MidAmerican Energy will also often provide a matching grant. So a donation of $10 may turn into $12-$15 as a result of the grant. These will be combined, and as a result of this, all donations go directly to the agency that oversees the Low Income Energy Assistance Program in the town or county.

Donations can be recurring or one time. It is easy to do, and can be done using a pledge form or over the phone. The number to dial for a donation, or to apply for assistance, is 888-427-5632. Another option is to ask for a payment plan, as MidAmerican Energy may offer this too.
