If you are struggling with your utility bills, then Project SHARE may be able to assist. This program, which relies on donations and contributions from the public, assists hundreds of low income and poor Mississippi Power or Southern Company customers every year. Provided funding is available and conditions are met, the program can provide emergency assistance with your utility bills when you are out of options.
The donation program provides people from the community the ability to give back and to help the less fortunate. Your contribution, which can be as little as a dollar a month, can assist a neighbor in need. Your small donation toward their utility bill may be just the thing that someone needs to get back on their feet. You can contribute as much as or as little as you want.
By simply adding a dollar, $2, or $5 (or really any amount you want) to Project SHARE, you can make a difference to a lower income Mississippi Power customer. You can enroll or participate in Project SHARE at any time, either online or contribute over the phone. The United Way also plays a key role and will help administer the program. After you enroll, your monthly or one time contribution will be added to your electric bill as an extra charge. It will also remain there on your bill until you notify Mississippi Power that you want to end your participation in the program. People also have the option to make a one-time donation of any whole-dollar amount they want.
Most of the money raised is used to assist the handicapped, elderly, medically disabled and others in need. They need to meet application criteria and also need to be having difficulty paying their utility bill. Catholic Charities as well as the United Way administer the program, and you need to apply at those non-profits. The American Red Cross may also have information.

Mississippi Power realizes that situations or emergencies can arise that make it hard for some people to pay their bills, especially during these challenging economic times. The Project Share donation program provides a means for helping those truly in need.
To apply, dial 1-855-847-0555. An appointment will be made. When you call, general information will be taken from the applicant and you will be provided a list of documents required. You will need to stop by a local church or Catholic Charity center, and this information will be provided to you when you call. Walk ins are not accepted. While funding and terms can vary, some customers may be able to receive assistance up to twice per year.
The program started in the early 2000s. Since then, Catholic Charities, Project SHARE and the United Way has collected and paid out hundreds of thousands of dollars to the low income in Mississippi. If you donate, everything you contribute will go to assisting the low income in your community.
