Customers of North Georgia EMC, who are struggling to pay their electric, heating, or utility bills may get financial help from Project Share. Donations are used from the Salvation Army, charities, churches as well as customers and/or employees to help the less fortunate pay their utility bills.
North Georgia EMC has multiple customer support offices (listed below). Each of them can provide information on various utility bill assistance programs, including Project Share. There are also payment plans, free energy conservation programs, financial aid like LIHEAP as well as other grants. The goal of North Georgia EMC is to direct struggling customers to different options they may have. Programs include the following:
North Georgia EMC Project Share – This is the main resource. It uses donations from the community, whether businesses, employees of North Georgia EMC, residential households and many others. All of the money raised (100% of it) is provided to the less fortunate for their energy bills.
The majority of the financial assistance is for seniors, elderly, the working poor, sick, and those in an extreme, one off hardship. North Georgia EMC Project Share is not a long term assistance program. It is a short term resources that uses the donations to help pay electric and heating bills in a crisis.
The Salvation Army as well as North Georgia EMC partner together to offer help. Together they collect donations and disburse funds. The emergency utility bill assistance is often combined with other resources too, such as case management, food, clothes, and much more.
Additional low income energy bill help – There are other resources as well. They are often combined with North Georgia EMC Project Share. Those other services include payment plans, as the company will work with customers (within reason) to keep their power on.

Many other North Georgia EMC customers get government help, both from the state as well as federal government. Those may be LIHEAP, or the nationwide Low Income Energy Bill Assistance Program. Families living in poverty may also use cash aid from TANF for paying utility bills, though that is time limited. Another one that can help customers save money, which is often combined with North Georgia EMC Project Share, is the government weatherization service.
