The program was founded many years ago, and it provides advice, access to financial assistance, and general support to help Oregon families keep their heat and utilities on during emergency situations. Oregon HEAT operates across the state, and one of the big reasons it was created was to help prevent disconnection of utility and heating service during inclement weather.
Oregon HEAT wants to ensure that families across Oregon are safe and warm in their own home. The various agencies and individuals that contribute to the program help low-income Oregonians, the unemployed, working poor and other hardworking families and individuals keep their vital utilities, including heat and electricity on during unforeseen emergency situations and hardships.
There are many individuals and businesses that donate to the program, and the agency network and local non-profits help determine eligibility and who can or can’t apply for help. The program will help keep the lights on and heat running (including propane, oil, and wood) for those in need of assistance.
The bottom line is that Oregon HEAT is an independent nonprofit organization that was created over 20 years ago to help low-income Oregonians and hardworking families keep those vital utilities on during unforeseen emergency situations. They accomplish this goal by providing utility and heating bill payment assistance to low income households who are facing emergency situations.
Oregon HEAT is a partnership of many non-profits and businesses, and the program works with local social service, charities and other agencies across the state to screen requests for assistance from customers of West Oregon Electric Cooperative, Pacific Power, PGE and other utility companies. Oregon HEAT also has a recovered oil program and helps households pay for all fuels such as propane, gas and wood.
