Utility Bill Assistance

Palo Alto Project PLEDGE assistance program.

One way to assist others is by donating to the Project PLEDGE utility bill assistance program. This was created in an effort help those who are struggling with paying their energy bills. It is also a great way to give back to the community.

The program was created to serve as a voluntary service and it allows Palo Altans to assist their neighbors when they are struggling. It was created to help people who are faced with a crisis and/or unexpected hardship. Those emergencies can happen to anyone at anytime, and Project PLEDGE can assist those who need it. The money paid out is not charity aid is is one time only. So if you contribute you do not need to think of it as giving money to a long term government entitlement program.

The program runs off of donations. It will be tax deducible for those who contribute, and the money your contribute will go into a fund that provides utility bill payment assistance. Any aid paid out is one time only. Most of the money goes to those with a crisis, such as a substantial medical expenses, the sudden death of a wage-earner, or people faced with a job loss. Many families with children or seniors are able to keep their power on from your contributions.

You can donate anyway you want to. Some residents will make a single contribution by check while other individuals in Palo Alto will make regular monthly donations through their utility bills. The process to contribute is very simple and flexible. You can use the donation form in your monthly bill (or download it) or call (650) 329-2161 in order to speak to a customer service representative.

As indicated, the money is paid out on a one time basis to assist those faced with a crisis. In order to apply for assistance from ProjectPLEDGE, you will also need to call the customer service department. That phone number is (650) 329-2333. Customers will need to complete an application and also be approved for assistance. Several factors will be considered as part of this approval process.

In addition to the Project PLEDGE program, families across Palo Alto have other resources available to them. For example, customers who are faced with a hardship can also explore discount programs.

Those residents that are faced with a financial hardship or crisis may be able to receive a 25% discount on their natural gas, electricity, and general utility bills. The discount may even apply for sewer and storm drain costs. The reduced prices that you can receive can go a long way towards assisting with maintaining your service.

Several income limits are in place as well and need to be met by applicants. The total amount of the customer's discount as well as their eligibility is based on monthly income received in the most current months. It will also factor in the number of household members.
