Utility Bill Assistance

Pacific Power in California Project HELP utility bill donation program

Donations raised across the state of California by Pasadena Water and Power are used to fund Project A.P.P.L.E, or Assisting Pasadena People with Limited Emergencies. The energy provider offers people as well as businesses many different ways to contribute. All of the money pledged will go to very low income families who are at risk of a disconnection, or that have already had their power turned off. The funds will assist with a various of bills, ranging from heating to other utility costs.

Priority of Project A.P.P.L.E. is for low-income elderly households in the service area. Another focus is on disabled individuals or those with a serious medical condition. More information on both how to donate as well as to apply are noted below.

Pledges are made as part of Project A.P.P.L.E. The only reason this program exists is due to the generous funding of both individuals and businesses in the region. Money is also contributed by employees of the company as well, including management. In addition, Pasadena Water and Power will match those donations to make the program even more effective. Some of the other donation benefits are below.

  • In most cases, the donor will receive a tax benefit.
  • The money goes to emergency situations, and it is not an entitlement.
  • There are different donation methods, including recurring contributions that round up to the next dollar amount or one-time pledges.
  • Requests for assistance are screened, so the donations will be used wisely.
  • Project APPLE is flexible, in that people can either stop donating or change the amount they contribute whenever they want.

When seeking assistance for utilities from the program, the applying family must meet income requirements. This will take into account the size of the household as well, such as number of family members. Documentation needed will be original or copy of current utility bill with a balance due, income, and identification.

It is also focused on senior citizens as well as the disabled, however exceptions can be made by Pasadena Power. Note that applications are required, and in some cases face to face interviews are also needed. Any assistance paid out is geared toward the needs of the client rather than entitlement. This will also ensure that the funds are targeted to the correct Pasadena Power households and that the funds are used wisely.

Many Pasadena Water and Power customers have had a disconnection prevented as a result of Project A.P.P.L.E. This will be one of the focuses on the program, and this is why seniors or others at risk will take priority. In a crisis, contact Project A.P.P.L.E. to apply. Or, if possible, more donations are always needed.
