Contribute to the Share the Warmth Round utility assistance program from Piedmont Natural Gas. This was created in an effort to assist families facing a crisis and the low income with paying their utility and energy bills. It is a great way for people to give back to the community.
The program relies on donations of people and businesses from across South Carolina. In addition, the non-profit Piedmont Natural Gas Foundation makes matching grants and additional annual contributions to the Share the Warmth program. They have also contributed millions of dollars to the utility program since it began.
Without donations, the program would not exist. Customers of Piedmont Natural Gas can participate and contribute as well. They can make a one time donation or they can choose to round up their monthly bill to the nearest dollar. The point is every single cent or dollar someone’s gives makes a difference. If you select the round up option, the extra money will go directly to an approved Share the Warmth organization. All donations will be tax deductible as a charity type contribution.
The way the Round Up option works is as follows. When someone enrolls into the Piedmont Natural Gas Share the Warmth Round Up program, the utility company will “round up” your normal monthly Piedmont Natural Gas bill to the nearest dollar. So if your bill was say $45.34, your payment for that month will be rounded up to $46. The difference (of 66 cents in this example) will be sent to an approved Share the Warmth non-profit agency in your community. This organization will then distribute the funds to an approved customer who meets income conditions and is facing a crisis.

You can donate by completing the enrollment form on the back of your monthly bill or dial 1-800-752-7504 to speak to a customer service representative. You can also mail a check to Piedmont Natural Gas / Share the Warmth and get the address by calling the number above.
Your contributions are tax-deductible, the money you give will not go to paying administrative fees, and the money goes to people in your local South Carolina community. It does make a difference.
To apply for assistance with your bills, note that funds from Share the Warmth funds can be used to pay many types of utility bills. The energy source does not matter. So the grants from the program can be used to pay natural gas, propane, heating oil and electricity. Applications are processed by, and funds are distributed to residents through approved partner agencies such as the Salvation Army. Call an approved agency in your community to apply or dial 1-800-752-7504.
