Utility Bill Assistance

Pioneer Electric - We Care utility bill assistance

The Pioneer Electric Cooperative - We Care assistance program is very targeted in who can receive help. It is limited in scope as it depends on donations from individuals and businesses in order to keep it funding. The goal is to only assist with utility bills in a crisis, with a focus on seniors, the disabled, and people facing a one time crisis.

To donate, the company can be contacted below. There are different options provided, and those include both making one time contributions as well as a recurring monthly plan. In either case, if someone does decide to donate to We Care, then they can stop at any time. There are no long term commitments required.

All of the contributions made will be tax deductible in almost all cases. However it is always advised for someone to contact an accountant if they need confirmation of this or have additional questions. The Pioneer Electric company itself will also tend to offer matching grants to We Care. Employees from the Kansas based company also usually donate funds. This means that more people will be able to receive assistance with their electric and heating bills from the service.

There are also instances in which maybe someone is struggling at the moment so they apply to We Care for help. Then, months or years down the road, when the customer is in a better financial condition they have gone ahead and donated back to Pioneer Electric - We Care. So they do eventually give back in an effort to help someone that is less fortunate. This keeps the cycle going of assisting those that are less fortunate.

When applying for assistance from Pioneer Electric, note that funds are limited. This is intended to be a crisis solution and not for long term assistance. If someone is faced with ongoing challenges in paying their utility bills, they can explore other options such as LIHEAP.

There is a formal application process for We Care. Any assistance is first come and served. If there have not been enough donations from the community, then this will limit the scope of the program even more. However, Pioneer Electric or its partners will also try to provide referrals if and when needed.

Assistance is targeted at the elderly in the service territory. Additional support is for disabled customers or those facing some form of medical crisis. Also, any help for utility bills will only pay a portion of what is due. So it will offer the person time to get back on track. Also, the amount of funding is limited so many applications may need to be turned away.

For more information, or to donate, call Pioneer Electric. Customer service representatives from the company should be able to provide more information on exactly how We Care works. They can also provide details on both the donation process for this assistance programs as well as how to apply for help with energy bills. Dial 1800-794-9302.
