Customers of the state of North Carolina based Randolph Electric can both donate to, and apply for assistance from People Helping People. The energy provider offers this service for dealing with a crisis, and while funding is limited, there may be assistance available for utility and heating bills.
People Helping People (PHP) provides individuals from the greater North Carolina community a great way to give back. Donations are always needed, and the money will be put to good use. The Randolph Electric company provides this service, in partnership with other agencies, to help in a crisis.
Anyone can donate, either on a one time or recurring basis. Those who contribute monthly will normally have their bill rounded up to the next closest dollar amount, and that extra amount will go towards funding People Helping People. As an example, if the bill was normally $45.67, it will be rounded up to $46, and that additional 33 cents will be donated. While it doesn't sounds like much, when hundreds of people enroll, and contribute month in and month out, the amounts do add up.
Another way to donate to PHP is for one time contributions. Anyone can make them at any time, and once again all of the money will go to assisting low income families that are in a crisis. It will generally be for older customer of Randolph Electric, or maybe someone with a medical condition.
The people contributing will more than likely receive a state or federal government tax benefit. In addition, another part of P People Helping People is that the company will match donations, which makes any contributions even more impact. The employees of the company as well as management also contribute.
For those that need assistance, applications will be reviewed. The money from People Helping People will be focused on paying heating bills during the winter, or keeping the power on. The program is limited and scope, and many people will need to be turned away. Also, priority is for those in a one time crisis. Clients may be seniors that are struggling to pay for medications, the unemployed, people impacted by a disaster and others.

The intent of this Randolph Electric service is not to be some form of entitlement. Rather it is a short term solution to helping the family overcome some type of hardship. Also, as noted, there will be priority for certain types of customers.
Any disbursements are based on donation levels. So please do contribute. While there are cases in which someone may not have the funds to do this today, the fact is anyone can have a crisis at any time. If and when this happens, People Helping People from Randolph Electric may be there to help. So contribute when possible, if the financial situation supports it. As it is a short term safety net.
