Utility Bill Assistance

Redding Electric SHARE utility assistance

When a family falls behind on their utility bills, Redding Electric SHARE  may be able to help. The program, which depends on donations from the community, was created to be a last resort for customers that are in a crisis. Whether it is a medical emergency, senior citizens with their health at risk if they lose power, or several other reasons, the Simply Helping Another Receive Energy program (administered by Golden Umbrella) may be able to help.

The program has been operating for several years. It was created by Redding Electric as well as local partner agencies. The donations to keep SHARE operating come from employees, caring customers, fund raisers held in the region, management and also share owners. Anyone who contributes to it will do so knowing that the funds stay local and they may in fact assist a neighbor.

Any dollar amount can be contributed, and the company also tries to match those donations. However that type of matching grant is not offered every year, and it is limited. There have been some instances in which the company also contributed to Redding Electric SHARE, which allowed even more people to get assistance for paying their utility bills.

Eligibility

The money will go to local non-profit organizations, such as Golden Umbrella, and any interested customers need to apply there for heating or energy help. All of the funds that are donated are administered by these groups. They are also committed to helping as many struggling, qualified families as possible. All of the money donated goes to paying energy bills, and no administrative expenses will be paid by contributions from the public.

All applicants need to be residential customers of Redding Electric; this is not intended to help businesses. There are certain priorities of the SHARE service, and they include, but are not limited to, the following.

-Applicants need to be over 60 or income qualified senior citizens.
-Heating bill help is given to the disabled and very low income families in poverty.
-Redding Electric may address special hardship cases too.
-A review of the household's payment history may be done as well.
-Households that have a medical emergency, such as serious illness, and need to have their power kept on may get help.

The applicant needs to have show a past ability to pay their utility bills on their own. Since this is a donation service, and assists on a one-time basis, the funds are limited. So Redding Electric SHARE is not likely to help pay utility costs using these precious donations if the customer will just have their electricity shut off the following month.

There are different ways to contribute or to apply as well. Donations can be made on a one-off basis or entering into a round up program, which is a recurring contribution that will be shown as a fixed monthly charge on each donor's bill. The customer support team at Redding Electric can go over those options. When it comes to applying to Redding Electric SHARE, either try a local non-profit or also ask the customer support team for a referral. More information is at (530) 223-6034.
