Customers that are close to having their electricity or heat turned off can apply for funds from South Carolina Electric & Gas Project Share. This donation program is available for those individuals or families with exceptional circumstances, such as the death of a primary wage earner, a serious health issue, or the use of medical equipment. While those are the focuses of where the funds go, from time to time utility bill assistance may be provided just for solving a short term financial crisis.
In most years the only people assisted are the elderly or sick. As since South Carolina Electric & Gas is mostly for exceptional situations only, they take priority. Only if there are funds available (which depend on donations) may the scope of the South Carolina Electric & Gas Project Share program be expanded to include other issues, such as a terrible financial crisis. In either case the amount of funding available for paying energy bills is limited, and this program should not be relied on.
In general, any assistance for paying heating or energy costs will only be available after the applicant has used all of their LIHEAP funding. Any interested person will also need to have applied for other local charities first (such as Community Action or the Salvation Army), before Project Share will assist. The application process used by South Carolina Electric & Gas and its partners will require proof of this being done. It will also need proof of income, residency, and past payment practices.
South Carolina Electric & Gas Project Share relies on contributions to operate each year. After calling the customer service team, the person can decide to make a one time donation or enter into the monthly, recurring round up service. No matter which is selected, all of the money will go only to paying utility bills of qualified customers. If the recurring contribution is selected, it can be stopped at any time.
Contributions to Project Share also comes from South Carolina Electric & Gas employees, customers and the Foundation that is run by the company. So it is just not the general public that is contributing. Instead all these different groups or people and even corporations are trying to give back to those that are less fortunate. Together all of these donations do make a major difference in the region.

Receipts showing the transaction are given to any person or businesses that donates. This will be valuable to them when filing their federal as well as state of South Carolina taxes. Therefore the South Carolina Electric & Gas Project Share program not only allows people to give back to the less fortunate by assisting them with their utility bills, but there is also a tax deduction from the government in most cases.
There are a few different places to turn to for more information. Of course either a struggling customer who need utility bill help can call 1-800-251-7234. The team will go over South Carolina Electric & Gas Project Share, and explore other options too such as payment plans or conservation methods. Another option is to call a local charity group including the Salvation Army for assistance with electric or other energy bills.
s far as donations, the customer service team at the number above can also advise on that. They can review how the contributions work, including offering addresses, sign ups, and more.
