Most of the SUB Project Share donations are used to help customers pay their heating costs during the winter, but other funds collected from the donation service can be offered year wide as well. The goal of the service is to provide some form of assistance for paying gas, oil, and other types of utility bills.
All of the contributions from the community, whether they are one time or recurring, will be income tax-deductible. The money stays local, and will only help Springfield Oregon families that use SUB as their energy provider.
There are two ways to donate. Both options are of course voluntarily done. Individuals, corporations, and other businesses can all decide to contribute money. One way to offer assistance is to “pledge” a monthly donation, and that in itself has two methods. In neither case the funds always go to help low income families pay their utilities and keep their heat on for a short period of time.
-One is a fixed dollar amount, so say $2 can be donated to SUB Project Share.
-Two is a round up service, and each bill will be increased to the next closest dollar amount.
The other way to contribute is to make a one time donation. The “pledges” can be stopped or started at any time. So if someone donates funds for several months, and then want to stop, they can do that. Just calling the customer support number of the Springfield Utility Board can make any changes needed. Dial 541-746-9852 to donate, or the process can also be done online.
As noted, most of the Springfield Utility Board Project Share funds are paid out during the winter months, as they are used to keep the heat and electricity on. Most of the donated money is available for applications from November 1 to April 30 of each year. If there are additional funds available, then the surplus may be paid out at other times of the year; but there are no guarantees.

All sorts of utility bills can be paid. They will be electric, natural gas, light, and more. The bottom line is a donation is used to keep a SUB customer with their power. While most is for heating bills, other costs can be paid too.
Even if the SUB donation program is not an option, a charity or someone seeking to give back can buy a “Warm Up” gift card. This is really a way to give money to a friend, family member, or even neighbor who is less fortunate. The only criteria is the Warm Up gift card will need to go to pay utilities; that is the reason for the funds.
To apply, the Springfield as well as Eugene Oregon Catholic Community Services takes applications and they disburse funds. They can also direct clients to other low income programs, in addition to the donation driven Springfield Utility Board Project Share. For examples, customers can learn how to save money from weatherization, how to apply for government grants, and much more. Advise is given on applying as well as seeking out other assistance programs. So, dial 541-746-8451 to reach SUB in Oregon, or call Catholic Services.
