Utility Bill Assistance

Energy and utility bill assistance from Empire District

Four different programs are offered by Empire District to Arkansas customers for their gas or monthly electric and utility bills. They include E.A.S.E, Project Help, E.L.I.P, and also they partner with various local community action agencies.

Community Action/Assistance Agencies - Call the Benton Office of Human Concern at 479-636-1488 to see what services they can offer. Community action agencies are very effective at helping people apply for energy assistance programs. They have extensive information on a number of financial assistance programs that are offered by the state of Arkansas as well as the federal government. Many locations also partner with regional non-profits, churches, and charities, so they can refer Empire District customers to other local resources.

Empire's Action to Support the Elderly (EASE) - Get assistance in the form of late fee and security deposit waivers for disabled as well as senior citizens. The program can also give customers more time to pay their utility bills. A payment plan may be initiated, fee reductions, or extensions of utility bill that are in arrearge .

Project Help - This is a donation program. Customers of Empire District in Arkansas, as well as local businesses and the utility company itself, contribute to the program, and those contributions are then used to help pay utility bills of those who are struggling or faced with a crisis. Money is focused on the elderly, lowest income, disabled, and people with medical conditions or who may have children at home. So apply for assistance, or if you are an Empire District customer, send a tax deductible donation in which can be used to help people in your community.

Empire District also fully participates in the LIHEAP program, otherwise known as the low income energy assistance program. Customers faced with a disconnection can apply for emergency support, or money can also be used to pay regular monthly energy bills. This is funded by the federal government, and every year tens of thousands of Arkansas families get assistance from LIHEAP. A number of those who receive cash grants are also Empire District customers.
