Customers who are facing a hardship may be able to qualify for a number of utility bill assistance programs from Western Massachusetts Electric. Customer service representatives from the energy company will help people apply for government assistance, or offer their own solutions.

Western Massachusetts Electric Financial Hardship programs can help the low income and working poor. In order to qualify for this service, residential customers of Western Massachusetts Electric need to meet certain income guidelines. Customer service reps from WMECo can offer Financial Hardship and other forms of utility assistance for income eligible customers. Customers need to meet income guidelines that are similar to the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

Lower income customers may also qualify for a discount rate on their utility bill. An applicants income needs to fall 175% of federal government poverty guidelines in order to qualify for a reduced rate on their energy bill. Discount rates can be provided for income-eligible residential customers who participate in certain federal and state government assistance programs.

If you qualify for a financial hardship per above then you will also be eligible for the Customer Shutoff Protection service. Western Massachusetts Electric will protect a qualified customers account from disconnection, however they need to meet one or more of the following conditions. the conditoons include someone who lives in the home needs to be seriously ill; Or they need to have a child less than one year-old living in the home home; Or someone in the household must be 65 years of age or older, even if there are minor children living in the household.

 

 

 

 

 

Good Neighbor Energy Fund is paid for by customer donations, and it can help low income customers in offering temporary crisis assistance, and money is offered for those who do not qualify for federal government or state energy funds.

Save money from Weatherization. WMECo works with local Community Action Agencies to connect low income families to free energy saving resources.

Fuel Assistance, or LIHEAP, is paid for by the federal government, with a focus on paying winter heating bills. Financial assistance is offered help qualified lower income households pay their winter heating bills as well as summer cooling expenses. Assistance and grants paid out will be based on annual household income and number of family members.

Western Massachusetts Electric Payment Plans - Agency from the utility company can create a payment arrangement for qualified customers. Assistance can be offered for paying up to 4 months of a delinquent account. Customers will need to stay current on any agreed upon payment plans.

Arrearage program was created to help WMECO customers manage their energy bills. The company will help customers develop a monthly budget. Each month that a customer makes a timely payment they will earn credits to pay off the unpaid utility bills. It will be paid off in phases.
