Either donate to Valley Electric Association Lighthouse Assistance Program or apply for financial help from it. The program was created for those two reasons and anyone in the service territory that meets the terms and guidelines can seek help. Or of course any business or individual can contribute to its operation.
For people or businesses looking to donate, there are many ways to do this. No matter which method is selected, often the donor will be qualified for an income tax credit each year. Also, they can be confident that there money will be spent wisely towards helping qualified families with your utility bills and not administrative costs.
-Operation Round Up is used to contribute to Valley Electric Association Lighthouse Assistance Program on a monthly basis.
-Charities such as the Salvation Army in Nevada will also commonly contribute and collect donations.
-Checks can be mailed to Valley Electric Association on a one time basis, and this money will go to fund the program.
Donations come from many sources. Each one is greatly appreciated by the company and even more so by the low income families that will end up receiving the funds. The funds go to provide heating and general utility bill assistance to hundreds of struggling families each year. Many of the beneficiaries are senior citizens or working poor families with children, many of which are just needing a form of short term assistance.
Valley Electric Association Lighthouse Assistance Program was also of course created to provide assistance in a crisis. There may be small dollar amounts paid out by the program to help keep the lights on for qualified low income customers, many of whom would be at risk if their power was shut off.
When applying for assistance for utility bills, some or all of the following are needed by the Valley Electric Association Lighthouse Assistance Program administrators. Applicants should bring proof of income from all sources and all household members. This needs to include whether they are enrolled into LIHEAP or weatherization, source of income from a job, pension, disability, or all sources. In addition, an interview will take place as part of this application process.

Any funding provided from Valley Electric Association will be focused on critical parts of the season when people are at risk. This means some money may be issued in the depths of winter for paying heating or gas bills. Or assistance for hot summer air conditioning expenses may be provided too. One big reason people donate is to ensure the health and safety of their neighbors, and therefore this is a goal of Lighthouse Assistance Program.
Assistance is for short term, crisis needs only. For anyone that needs long term support or has a cycle of poverty/disconnections, then Valley Electric Association Lighthouse Assistance Program is not the best option for them. They should seek help from other places either at the same time or maybe first. So for more information, dial (775) 727-5312 or stop by the office.
