Utility Bill Assistance

Why You Should Make the Switch to LED Lighting.

The modern marketplace offers a wide range of lighting options to choose from. LED is just one of the many different types of light bulbs and devices out there. Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are becoming popular over other types of light bulbs, and for good reason.

With all the options available, it can be confusing to shoppers. That being said, a plethora of advantages are associated with LED lighting systems, making them a smart, energy efficient option for both home owners and business owners alike. Maybe the biggest reason to use them is due to the lower cost for usage, which means your monthly utility bills will be cheaper.

Energy Saving

Compared to other types of light bulbs, LEDs are up to 80 percent more efficient. This means they will result in about 80 lower monthly utility – light bill costs. Let’s bring this to how much money you can save on your utility bills.

Let’s say an LED bulb costs $0.11 per kWh to use, which is a good average number for what is available on the marketplace. This means it will cost you $25 to $30 to use an LED light bulb for about 25,000 hours, which is the minimal length of one of these bulbs when it comes to their lifespan.

Now if you have a “regular” incandescent light bulb, that will only cost you about $180 for the same 25,000 hours, not to mention the need to purchase a new bulb as an incandescent will not last that long. This means an LEB bulb costs about ¼ of a regular bulb.

If you have touched incandescent or florescent bulbs they are hot, right? Of the total energy generated, only 5 percent is converted to heat by LEDs. Due to less waste via heat emission, LED bulbs save a lot of energy, and can lower your electric bills significantly. Less heat emission also makes them suitable for buildings that get hot like restaurants and factories, or hotter climates where heat generation is an issue, saving money on cooling costs.

Long Lasting

A standard light bulb that is used heavily will last for several months or maybe a couple years (if light usage) before it blows, due to a wide range of heating and cooling temperatures that shorten the bulb's lifespan. LEDs though, give you up to 100,000 hours of nonstop use. This is an incredible 11 years of continuous light. It can be 10 to 50 times longer than halogen or incandescent light bulbs.

These bulbs can last even longer in an environment where you don't need continuous light, such as at home. This means you will save a lot of money on buying future light bulbs.

Affordable

Initially, LED bulbs were beyond the price point that most consumers could afford. But, with advanced, cheaper methods of production and increased competition, consumers have seen prices fall considerably. LEDs are now quite affordable with most stores selling them for a few dollars per bulb.

Not only that, their prices are expected to go lower than traditional bulbs as time goes on. This means the cost benefit will continue to improve. Even at current prices, LED bulbs pay for themselves over and over because they use much less energy and last a lot longer.

Environmentally Friendly

LEDs are mercury free, unlike florescent and incandescent bulbs. When disposed, they do not pose as much of a threat to the environment. Their long lifespan also means you will use fewer LED bulbs, resulting in less waste thrown into the landfill. The lower carbon footprint of LEDs helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well.

Versatile

Different environments require a variety of lighting options. LEDs offer greater versatility versus traditional lighting, such as fluorescent or incandescent bulbs. If you want a unique shape, size, color, or specific level of brightness, you can no doubt find a LED bulb that meets your needs. LED bulbs come in any wattage you may need.

Safe

Since they run cool, you are not going to burn your fingers changing LED bulbs. Incandescent or halogen bulbs also present a fire risk due to their massive heat production, but LEDs are 100 percent safe to use in any room, including small, enclosed areas, without the danger of them overheating.

Easy to Maintain

LEDs are not as likely to fail without warning as other types of light bulbs. They don't usually fail suddenly, but start dimming over time, giving you an indication that they need to be replaced. This makes maintenance easier, since you can replace them before they fail completely.

Making the switch to LED lighting is a smart choice for so many reasons. It saves money on your monthly utility bills, is better for the environment, and offers versatility, safety, and easy maintenance.
