Utility Bill Assistance

Tucson Electric Power helps with utility bills

In addition to LIHEAP, Tucson Electric offers its low income, elderly, and disabled customers a few other ways to get help with utilities. Some of them are funded by customer donations, and others were created directly by the utility company itself. The four main components, how they can help customers save money on utility bills, and the programs are listed below.

Residential Lifeline Discount Program - This provides low income customers with a recurring discount on their utility bill. Tucson Electric customers whose total household income is at or below 150% of the federal government poverty level, and who are considered low income, may qualify for up to $8 discount off their bill each and every month.

Help with Emergency Energy Relief Operation (H.E.E.R.O.) - This was created from donations from customers, local businesses, and additional funding from Tucson Electric. The H.E.E.R.O. program provides one-time cash payments and grants on electric and energy bills for low-income customers and people who may be in a crisis situation. The HEERO program is administered by the Salvation Army, so you need to call your local branch to apply or to learn more. Or find more details.

Lifeline/Medical Life-support Discount - Customers with certain medical conditions, or if the individual may need power for a life threatening condition, may be able to save on their electric bills. The program will provide a monthly discount for households that meet the financial eligibility guidelines for the Residential Lifeline Program. Currently the total discount offered can be up to 10% on their bills.

Tucson Electric Low-Income Fund for Emergencies (LIFE) Fund - This resource was created back in 1996.  The program was created to supplement the federal government funded LIHEAP program, and will help address any shortfalls in that federal government program. The Low-Income Fund for Emergencies (LIFE) Fund can help pay the utility bills of LIHEAP qualified families. The fund is also administered by the Salvation Army, so call your local branch in Tucson Arizona.
