Find help in New Jersey with electric, heating, and utility bills.

The New Jersey SHARES program is the only statewide, nonprofit organization which will help with your bills by providing people with grants to pay the utility bills of any household that is in need. They partner with a statewide network of over 150 community-based social service agencies. Lifeline
Is a utility bill assistance program that offers help to New Jersey families in the form of $225 credits to persons who meet the PAAD eligibility requirements or those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Those eligible for help include utility customers as well as tenants whose utility bills may be included in their rent. Help will be provided for heating, electric, and utility bills.

Universal Service Fund (USF)
This program began in New Jersey October 2003. The USF will provide a fixed credit percentage of income payment plan under which plan participants will be have to pay no more than six percent of their annual income towards heating, electric and gas bills. Read more on this program.

 

 

 

 

 

New Jersey weatherization assistance
Program Description: This program will assist handicapped , elderly, and low-income homeowners in weatherizing their homes, conserving energy, and improving their heating system efficiency.
Assistance is provided to lower income occupants as well as community-based agencies that assist low-income occupied dwelling units.

Federal government assistance
The primary government program to apply to for grants and emergency utility and heating bill assistance is LIHEAP. Thousands of low income New Jersey families receive cash assistance, heating oil, and other aid from this federal government program. Funds can even prevent a disconnection. Central Hudson Gas & Electric serves a limited region. Their customers that are facing a short term hardship with paying their utility bill can apply for assistance from the Good Neighbor Donation Fund. Money can help paying gas and other energy bills. Learn more.
